New Zealand’s Coffee Carts – take one
In China there are tea houses, but in New Zealand there are coffee carts.
It has been said that wherever you go in New Zealand, you will always find good coffee. Perhaps a little odd since the country doesn’t produce it, but if you knew something about New Zealanders, it doesn’t seem odd at all. We love coffee.
Coffee carts have been a part of the New Zealand landscape for as long as I can remember. These were usually found in and around urban areas next to corporate offices, inside train stations, and big city airports.
Things have changed and now carts serving some of the country’s best tasting coffee — and tea– can be found practically anywhere.
I started documenting these carts — at the request of my boyfriend — and decided to share some with readers.

This cute cart lives next to the train stop in the town of Taihape. It’s been in operation for a year, and is popular with travellers. Coffee, tea and souvenirs are for sale as well as New Zealand’s favourite ice cream called a snow freeze (like Mr Whippy but nicer).

Christchurch’s Arts market located around the Christchurch museum, is a popular spot for locals and visitors. The market has a mix of arts and crafts on sale, as well as food carts and of course, the occasional coffee cart. Even in winter New Zealander’s love to sit outdoors. The country’s smoking policy has a lot to do with it, but crisp fresh air and bright sunny days attracts people outdoors.

I wish coffee carts were a bigger trend around the world. I think in a place like NZ my consumption would trip simply due to the ease of access.
Xander and Anil – I love the easy access no need to wait in a cafe. And they do good coffee plus tea and cool drinks. A great idea which I must take back to the northern hemisphere with me.

i love these coffee carts.
Reminds me of the ones lining up the streets of manhattan, and you can see so many people grabbing a coffee, paper and may be a smoke as they make their way towards work at unholy hours. Well, i had to on a few days and never have i loved these carts more
!
