Craving a flavorful and colorful Mediterranean dish? Look no further than Papa V Good Food’s Tel Aviv Mix! After a long ride from our Bantayan escapade, this was our first meal in Cebu City, imagine if were let down after such a tiring trip.

This amazing dish offers a fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors, featuring ingredients like grilled kebab, juicy chicken thighs, and a variety of delightful textures and flavors. I regard this as because it isa hearty and satisfying dishthat will give you a healthy taste of the Mediterranean for only P520 that is good enough for two people.

They have three branches in Cebu City and we believe that the Escario branch is a great place to dine in if you want so quiet and peace while eating.

Despite minor issues like loud staff and a tricky front door from Google, Papa V Good Food has received rave reviews for its delicious cuisine, generous portions, and affordable prices. The restaurant’s diverse menu includes popular Mediterranean dishes like hummus, falafel, and shawarma.

If only we were not keen on trying other establishments we would have gone back here for every meal during our stay.

SPICY Restaurant Samgyeopsal & Chicken

During our first night in Cebu City we immediately craved for some late night snacks after having a hearty meal from Papa V Good.

So far, this establishment was one of the place that was open beyond 11pm.

SPICY Restaurant Samgyeopsal & Chicken is a go-to place for mouth-watering dishes like their famous Korean Chicken, Snowy Chicken, and savory shrimp dishes, all at affordable prices. They mainly offer beer on their menu.

Located conveniently in front of Park Lane/Mandarin and Quest hotels, this cozy spot is perfect for a quick bite or a fun dinner with your loved ones.

Though the name suggests samgyeopsal, their shrimp and chicken dishes take center stage. The Korean Chicken, priced at P400, boasts a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors, coated in a sticky gochujang-based sauce, served with rice and pickled vegetables.

We find this as the best dish to have just before you sleep!

Tightrope Coffee

Tightrope Coffee, a hidden gem in Cebu City, offers two mouth-watering pasta dishes that you shouldn’t miss on your food trip around the city.

The Chorizo Aglio Olio pasta, priced at P295, is a flavorful Italian dish made with spaghetti, garlic, olive oil, and spicy chorizo sausage. The simple yet satisfying dish is cooked al dente and brings a perfect harmony of spicy and savory flavors.

While the parking in the food park can be limited, it is recommended to park in the vicinity, and the area can also get crowded as the restaurant is pet-friendly. These three above are mostly just around MJ Square food park which is a few minutes away from the beachfront resorts.

Another choice you have is the Hungry Beach Co. if your accommodation is just near Kota Beach. They feature a number of food establishments that be a great option if you also want to mingle and party.

How to Go to Balabac, Palawan (The Real, Updated Guide from Someone Who’s Been There Twice)
If you’re looking to explore untouched beaches, island-hop through crystal-clear waters, and swim with sea turtles in the wild—Balabac, Palawan might just be your next dream destination.

But before you get too excited, know this: Balabac is remote, and the journey isn’t simple. In fact, most travel blogs still point tourists to the wrong port, which can cause serious delays.

So I’m here to help you get it right—based on my own personal travel experience. This is your step-by-step guide on how to go to Balabac Palawan, with insider tips you won’t find on generic travel sites.

We trusted Balabac Island Tours-Kamp Malaya (please don’t confuse this with another tour operator with Malaya on its name) on our first time and our second time and which they definitely have gone beyond and above on both our stays.

What Is Balabac and Where Is It Located?

Balabac is a group of over 30 islands and islets located in the southwesternmost part of Palawan, close to the maritime border of Malaysia. It’s known for its remote beaches, vibrant marine life, and lack of commercial tourism—which is what makes it so special.

But because it’s so far south, it requires effort to reach. That’s why proper planning is essential.

It is best to consider guided tours or packages when planning to go to Balabac. You have to research tour operators and travel agencies that offer guided tours or packages for Balabac Island.

As for us we booked a tour right after we booked our flight. Ideally we booked months ahead since we really wanted to have a room from Kamp Malaya (if no rooms, there are tents).

It would be best to be clear about your accommodation, meals and other inclusions from your booked tour so you won’t have any frustrations or false expectations.

Step 1: Fly to Puerto Princesa, Palawan

Your journey starts by flying into Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS)—the nearest airport to Balabac and your entry point to southern Palawan.

How to book your flight:

Book from major Philippine cities like Manila, Cebu, or Davao.

Flights are available daily via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, or AirAsia.

If you’re flying internationally, you may need to transit via Manila.

I best recommend a one-day stay at Puerto Princesa before going to Balabac Island since most trips going to the port (for the boat/tours that will take you to Balabac) take 5-6 hours and are best traveled early in the morning.

Reminder: Have enough cash before traveling to Balabac since there are no atms at Balabac island and surrounding islets.

Why Puerto Princesa?

This is where most Balabac tours start, and it’s where you’ll catch a van or private transfer heading to Port Buliluyan—the only correct port for Balabac-bound boats.

Tip: Book morning flights so you have time to rest in Puerto Princesa before traveling early the next day.

Step 2: Stay Overnight in Puerto Princesa

One of the smartest things you can do is spend one night in Puerto Princesa before heading south. Here’s why:

The drive to Port Buliluyan takes around 5–6 hours.

Vans leave early in the morning—usually between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM.

If you arrive late in Puerto Princesa, you’ll miss same-day transfers.

Be realistic about the amount of time you can spend exploring each day and factor in time for meals and relaxation.

This will help you allocate your time wisely and ensure that you don’t miss out on any highlights.

What to do in Puerto Princesa:

Try local delicacies at food stalls or restaurants.

Shop for last-minute supplies like snacks, dry bags, or sunscreen.

Coordinate with your tour operator (or meet them in person, if local).

Tip: Book accommodation near the city center or airport for easy pick-up.

As you’re here, or before anything else you need to plan for contingencies and emergencies.

Research and prepare medications that you might need for any allergies you have or just fully prepare a little emergency kit for your adventure.

As I remember Balabac DIY tour is not advised. As of 2023, more tour operators have been granted business permits, so best check and get deals from them

Step 3: Travel from Puerto Princesa to Port Buliluyan

This is one of the most important things you need to know:
🛑 DO NOT go to Port Rio Tuba, most blogs will write about Rio Tuba maybe this was the old jumpoff port, but this is no longer the port being used.
✅ The correct jump-off point to Balabac is Port Buliluyan in the municipality of Bataraza.

How to get to Port Buliluyan:

Join a tour package – most Balabac tours include van transfers.

Hire a private van – ideal for groups or families.

Ask your accommodation for help – some have tour contacts.

Travel time:

Around 5 to 6 hours on paved roads.

The route is scenic but long, so bring snacks and stay hydrated.

Insider tip: We booked both of our tours from Kamp Malaya that handled everything, and that was honestly the best decision. No stress, no guesswork—we were picked up from our hotel and brought directly to Buliluyan Port.

Once you arrive at Buliluyan Port, you’ll then take a boat to Balabac Island.

Step 4: Take a Boat from Port Buliluyan to Balabac

Once you reach Port Buliluyan, your boat journey begins. Depending on your tour operator and where you’re staying, you may head directly to Balabac mainland, or straight into island-hopping mode.

What to expect:

Boat ride takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on weather and sea conditions.

Boats are usually traditional outrigger boats (bangkas) or speedboats.

If you’re on a tour, your guide will handle boat assignments, fees, and safety briefings.

Pro tip: Be dressed for island life before boarding. Dry bags, reef-safe sunscreen, and waterproof phone pouches are essential.

Boat schedules may vary, so it’s best to check with your accommodation or tour operator for the latest information. The boat ride can take up to 4 hours, but the stunning views of the sea and islands make it worth the journey.

Typically, if you booked a Balabac tour, you only need to log your names in the small office there before heading to the assigned boat for your tour. I do recommend that you be on something that you can already swim with and be on your dry bags, hats and glasses already before they put your bags under the boat.

What to Do Once You Arrive in Balabac Islands

Balabac is all about nature, simplicity, and stunning island landscapes. There are no malls or fancy restaurants here—just raw beauty.

Top Island Stops:

Onuk Island – Private island known for sea turtle sightings and surreal blue waters.

Candaraman Island – Instagram-worthy sandbars and starfish.

Punta Sebaring – Dreamy white sand as fine as baby powder.

Canibungan and Nasubata Islands – Perfect for swimming, relaxing, and drone shots.

Tip: Make sure your tour includes Onuk Island. It’s privately owned and requires special permission, which your tour operator usually handles.

When’s the Best Time to Visit Balabac?

Balabac is best visited during the dry season, especially:

March to May – Perfect beach weather

Late February to early June – Generally safe for boat travel

🌧️ Avoid traveling from June to October, as the southwest monsoon (Habagat) brings rain, rough seas, and potential trip cancellations.

Where to Stay in Balabac?

We stayed at Kamp Malaya, one of the more well-known tour bases in the area. It was basic—but in the best way. Think beachfront tents, sunrise views, and meals by the water.

Most tour operators provide:

Tent or cottage accommodations

Simple but hearty meals

Freshwater for washing (limited supply)

Restroom facilities (not luxurious but decent)

How to Get Back from Balabac to Puerto Princesa

The return trip is the reverse of your arrival:

Boat back to Port Buliluyan

Van ride to Puerto Princesa (5–6 hours)

Optional: Stay overnight or head directly to the airport

Tip: Add in buffer time for unexpected delays—especially if your flight is on the same day as your return trip. Best to have it late at night or the next day.

Things To Note

The boat ride to the different islands can take hours, but the stunning views of the sea and islands make it worth the journey.

Make sure to bring enough food and water for the trip, as not all islands has stores. Also, don’t forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

Exploring the Islands

Now that you have arrived at Balabac Island, it’s time to explore its natural beauty. Some of the must-visit spots on the island include:

Onuk Island – A privately-owned island with crystal-clear waters, Onuk Island is perfect for snorkeling, diving, and swimming with sea turtles. Make sure to secure permission and pay the entrance fee before visiting the island.

Punta Sebaring/Bugsuk Island – A long pristine white sand beach that stretches for kilometers, Punta Sebaring is an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. It’s also home to a small fishing village, where you can interact with the locals and learn more about their culture.

Candaraman Island – Known for its beautiful sandbar, Candaraman Island is a great place for beachcombing, swimming, and taking Instagram-worthy photos with lots of starfishes! Plus it has a sandbar near it.

And amazingly, the island has its private airstrip! Way to own an island, right?

Melville Lighthouse – Built during the American colonial period, the Melville Lighthouse offers panoramic views of the surrounding islands and the Sulu Sea. This one can be found on the main Balabac Island (this is not usually included on tours so better clarify if you want to visit this)

Ensure You Have Proper Documentation and Follow Safety Guidelines.

Before traveling to Balabac Island, make sure you have the necessary documents such as a valid passport, travel insurance, and any required visas. Additionally, follow safety guidelines provided by local authorities and your tour operator to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

Pack Light and Bring Essential Items. Packing light is essential when traveling to Balabac Island, as you will need to carry your luggage during boat transfers. Make sure to bring essential items such as lightweight clothing, a swimsuit, a reusable water bottle, a waterproof bag, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first aid kit.

Respect the Environment and Local Culture. When visiting Balabac Island, remember to respect the environment by minimizing your use of single-use plastics and disposing of waste properly.

Showing respect for the environment and local customs will enhance your travel experience and leave a positive impact on the communities you visit.

Stay Connected and Informed. While the internet connection on Balabac Island may not be as reliable as in urban areas, it’s still important to stay connected and informed.

Why You Need to See Balabac, Palawan At Least Once In Your Life
Gosh, promise. Balabac, Palawan is truly one for the books. Everything looked like it was something that you’ll only see in travel catalogues. Even the foreigners in our group can’t believe their eyes when we went to the first beach…

Just imagine how awestruck we all were as the view and beaches seemed to still get better as we went from one island to another!

If you’re looking for a destination that’s will truly feel like an escape from your mundane and repetitive life, a tour in Balabac Palawan is so far the best beach experience you may want to save up for!

This hidden gem is located in the southernmost part of Palawan, and it offers an amazingly unique travel experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the Philippines.

We trusted Balabac Island Tours-Kamp Malaya (please don’t confuse this with another tour operator with Malaya on its name) on our first time and our second time and which they definitely have gone beyond and above on both our stays.

In this article, let me guide you on our first Balabac experience. Well, I said it. It’s a first because it truly is something you would want to visit again and again – if you have enough time and resources.

Well first, it’s not cheap, since you have to consider getting the flight and your accommodation in Puerto Princesa and it’s a minimum of a 4-day stay (at least one in Puerto Princesa, 3 days in the island, then taking the last flight schedule for the day).

But I’m telling you it’s one of the most enriching experiences you’ll have and it’s never too late to save up for it! In this article, I’ll let you in on some tips and what you may look forward to.

If you think it looks good in pictures, wait until you get there because the picture do not justify the enchanting pristine environment you’ll find in Balabac!

Islands + Tourist Spots in Balabac

Here are the islands that we visited and some of the islands that we missed (we hope to come by again and visit them too!)

Tangkahan Beach Island

Tangkahan was our first stop and this was where we had our lunch after a 5-hour trip to Buliluyan Port.

I was tempted to dip in the waters before taking our lunch but then nah, I forgot my aqua shoes in the boat so it took me a while to put them on after it, lunch was almost ready so I ate first. We stayed on the island for an hour.

The weather was clear, the waters are at their bluest and the sand is pristine white! It was amazing. At first, I was feeling like, “Ah this would be like the typical beach hopping like most tours have” but I was wrong.

I was SO wrong.

Patawan Island

We went to Patawan Island next. And what I thought would be like a typical beach hopping was dismissed immediately.

Another great news was, we were told that there was beer here! It was very chill and we stayed here for an hour and a half! They also have a nice restroom here in case you need to do your thing.

The remoteness of the island with nice huts for sitting adds to the charm of the inviting waters. After a while of swimming and drinking beer, we next headed to our campsite!

Sicsican Island

Everyone in our boat was booked with the same tour operator, and Sicsican Island is where we were set to camp. The docking point was on the other side of the campsite, but it was really nice to walk through the path with palms.

All the foreigners in our group were given tents (most likely because they booked with travel agencies) and later in this article, I’ll let you in some tips so you can get a room like ours (the picture below) on the campsite.

I’ll have a separate discussion about the camp later in this article so read on because we’ll get to that!

Onuk Island

On our second day, we were welcomed to Onuk Island by three big tortoises! It was definitely a great spot for snorkeling. While we have our own gear, you can check the office there as they rent gear for those who want to have a look at the immense aquatic life forms around the area.

This is definitely my favorite beach of them all, as it was very picturesque and the sandbar stretches far wide which is best for non-pro swimmers like me haha. Good thing that we stayed ate our lunch and stayed here for 4 hours.

Most of the blogs I read before taking this trip mentioned that they needed the owner of the island’s permission before going here. It was a great convenience that this was automatically included in our tour package.

Just in case you’re wondering, every island has their own entrance fees, and Onuk/Onok Island’s fee according to our boat’s captain is currently P1500 ($27.56) per head. Maybe it’s also the reason why we stayed there the longest!

Not sure about the other tours but with our tour package we never had to think of anything else but our dry bags and sunblocks whenever we go from one island to another.

Truth is, for the effort of preserving the wildlife, around the area, I believe that’s a very minimal amount compared to the delight, serenity, and calmness that you’ll find on the island.

Nasubata Reef

Nasubata Reef is a coral reef that is home to a variety of fish species, including colorful clownfish and angelfish. It’s a great spot for snorkeling and diving, where you can explore the colorful underwater world. You can even see the fishes and corals with your bare eye, that is how clear the waters are on almost all the beaches in Balabac!

This was the next stop after our long stay on Onuk island. We literally anchored the boat in what seemed like a typical part of the sea. It’s really amazing how our captain and all fellow boatmen were able to find the reef without any use of GPS.

While we didn’t snorkel here, me and my husband had our first jump off a boat in deep waters. Haha.

Candaraman Island

Candaraman Island was our next stop after the reef.

We found a lot of different colors of starfish around here! While it was another great beach it had such a great current that you can just float and move on your own.

The island also has its own airstrip. Most likely it’s for the owner’s private jet and guests, what a nice thing to have right?

Mansalangan Sandbar: A Blink-and-You’ll-Miss-It Beauty

Mansalangan Sandbar ended up being the second-to-the-last stop of our 4D3N tour with Kamp Malaya—and honestly, it was the highlight of the entire trip. What made it even more special was that this stop wasn’t included the first time we visited Balabac (since we only took the 3D2N trip), so seeing it this time felt like an unexpected bonus.

When the tide is low, a slim stretch of powdery white sand appears in the middle of calm, crystal-clear waters, creating a scene that feels almost unreal. Stayed for a while —just enough time to walk barefoot, snap photos, and soak it all in before heading to the final stop. Quiet, simple, and breathtaking, Mansalangan Sandbar was a beautiful reminder that even repeat trips can still surprise you.

Canimeran Island

On our last day (of our 3D2N trip), we headed first to Bancalaan Island to submit the log files for the guests. We didn’t alight the boat since it was just a stopovers for boats heading back to Buliluyan Port, but just before we went back, we headed straight to Canimeran Island. This is where we ate our last lunch.

We stayed here until 1PM and headed to Buliluyan Port again to take the 5 hour trip back to Puerto Princesa.

Now this was the last stop on our 4D3N trip,

Balabac Island

Balabac Island is the main island in Balabac, and it’s where the town proper is located. We were not able to visit Balabac Island but we’d love too (hopefully we can go back again right?).

Reasons To Visit At Least Once

1. Unspoilt beaches
Aside from the pristine white beaches, you don’t get much of a crowd. No watersports, no trash. More of seaweeds, roots, sandbars, live corals… all-nature and aquatic life.

2. Remoteness = Best Escape
Without a signal for days, you might as well forget about almost everything for a moment. It’s a way to shut yourself up from all the noise.

3. Clear waters
What else is more inviting than clear waters right? Just be careful because what would at first seem shallow could run really deep!

4. No pirates or crocodiles
Yep, you read it right! You might have heard stories about it but my theory is this. The armed people would be most likely coast guards (as there is a base in Balabac) because it’s the nearest island from Spratlys Island, an island disputed by which ownership is still disputed by China and the Philippines.

How to Go To Balabac Palawan

Transportation to Balabac Palawan

Getting to Balabac, Palawan can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s definitely worth it. Here are some of the ways to get to Balabac:

Manila to Balabac Palawan

The easiest way to get to Balabac from Manila is to take a flight to Puerto Princesa, and then take a van or bus to Buliluyan Port, which is the jump-off point for island hopping tours in Balabac. The travel time from Manila to Puerto Princesa is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, while the travel time from Puerto Princesa to Buliluyan Port is approximately 5-6 hours.

Coron to Balabac Palawan

Take a ferry to Coron Boat Station and then to El Nido Palawan then take the bus to Puerto Princesa and then to Rio Tuba then take a ferry to Balabac Island Pier, which is in Buliluyan Port.

Most articles you may read may mention Rio Tuba but Buliluyan port is a more recent pier used to go to Balabac this 2026.

Puerto Princesa to Balabac Palawan

If you’re coming from Puerto Princesa, you can take a van or bus to Buliluyan Port, which is approximately 6 hours away.

We find that the best way to enjoy your Balabac experience is to directly book a tour as they usually fetch everyone straight from their hotels.

Tour Package & Experience

To make your trip to Balabac Palawan hassle-free, it’s recommended to book a tour package with a reliable and experienced tour operator. We booked a tour with Kamp Malaya three months ahead.

What we chose on our first time there was a 3D2N package which is inclusive of a tour, accommodation, food, and transportation to and from Puerto Princesa. On our second time there, we booked the 4D3N package which was definitely a great decision because we were able to also visit Mansalangan sandbar.

The Camp Experience

The campsite of the Kamp Malaya tour had a common bathroom for everyone. The camp was not too crowded even when most of the tourists were in tents.

Mobile signal was hard to come by but that’s perfect when you want to shut out the noise from social media right? But when we went back again, they had a Starlink (but just enough for quick scrolling).

As for electricity, it only comes on from 6 pm to 6 am. And don’t worry, because there are electrical outlets in the huts where your group come together for meals.

You may find that the same captain and boatmen you have on your boat are the same people who will be accommodating you during meal time (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Just let them know if you need anything like an extra meal as they would most likely try to help you.

If you have a specific itinerary or budget in mind, you try to ask if they can tailor-fit your tour package based on your preferences and needs.

Best Tips & Reminders

Before you head on an adventure to Balabac Palawan, here are some tips and reminders that you should consider:

Pack light: Since you’ll be island hopping and camping, it’s important to pack only the essentials. Bring only the clothes, toiletries, and gadgets that you need for the trip.

Bring insect repellent: Balabac is known for its abundance of mosquitoes, so make sure to bring insect repellent to protect yourself from mosquito bites.

Stay hydrated: Balabac can be hot and humid, so make sure to drink plenty of water and other fluids to stay hydrated. Bring your own water tumbler/plastic bottle as you can refill from water jugs provided by the camp.

Respect the environment and local culture: Balabac is a beautiful and pristine destination, so make sure to respect the environment and avoid leaving trash behind. Also, make sure to respect local customs and traditions, and listen to your boatmen.

A 3D2N in Balabac would be nice but imagine how much more you could find when you take the 4D3N option, right?

You can choose to spend one day in Puerto Princesa (before your first day in Balabac) and take another day after your last day in Balabac to avoid the hassle. As for us, we got the last flight back to Manila on our last day to make sure that we won’t miss the flight in case of any delay in the 6-hour trip from Buliluyan Port in Bataraza back to Puerto Princesa.

Make sure to have your dry bags already with you in the van! It was such a breeze especially as we have gone straight to the island hopping after the long trip in the van. Don’t forget to have your sunblock, sunglasses, hat, and something to cover your arms in there in case the heat gets prickly.

These dry bags have been with us for a year now and guess what! We never had to worry about getting our things wet ever since we decide on getting these. In case you want to get yours here’s the link to getting it from Lazada and here’s a different brand but what I find as the best-reviewed dry bag on Amazon.

Dry bags are a great investment if you’re planning to travel, not just beaches, because they are also very useful when it’s raining.

For your first day in Balabac, make sure to dress in something with swimming in mind. I remember that some in our group had to change in the boats since there was no place else to change clothes.

The best place to sit in the boat would be in the middle. Yes, thank me later.

Book months ahead so you can have a room. We booked our tour right after we booked our flights. Having your own hut is quite convenient as you have a fan, your own electrical outlet, mosquito net, and a bed to rest on after a long day. Maybe it was also a great thing that we booked directly with the owner!

We also brought with us the aqua shoes that we got from Decathlon. These shoes have kept our feet safe from hard rocks and sharp stone beaches. Plus it has a snug fit that only sand, not stones, get in.

Don’t drink tap water. This goes for every travel you’d have. Which would you rather have, resisting having to drink or have a stomachache?

Best to have travel chargers, so that it won’t be only you who could charge when outlets run out right?

Weather Forecast in Balabac Palawan

Balabac, Palawan has a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C throughout the year. The best time to visit Balabac is from February to May, when the weather is dry and sunny.

However, it’s also possible to visit Balabac during the rainy season, which is from June to January.

Budget for a Balabac, Palawan Trip

Let’s base this budget on a 3D2N trip we had.

Package tour – P 12,500/per head ( x2 in our case)

One-day hotel in Puerto Princesa – at least P 1500

Car / Motor rental for a day in Puerto Princesa – at least P 500

Meals (for two people, three meals at the most) – P 2000

Extra money (toiletries, chips, sunblock, pasalubong, etc.) – P 6000

This brings us to P30,500 for two people WITHOUT the back-and-forth airfare. So yes, it’s definitely something you may want to save up for!

Alternatives for the overnight packages

In case you’re not yet ready for the full overnight tour packages there was a time that you can book different Balabac Tour Packages on Klook.

As of last check the below tours are no longer offered in Klook, but you can check with other tour operators if they can accomodate the below sample itineraries for you.
